In this category that something is very often an advertising slot on the page you sent your guests to. It is easy to shrug at, right up until you look at where the ads are. They are not on a settings screen you will never revisit. Punchbowl is different. There is no permanent free plan any more — new customers get a seven-day trial that takes a credit card — and on the plans you then pay for, Punchbowl's own upgrade page states that removing advertising **for you and your guests** requires Platinum. So on Plus at $5.99 a month and Premium at $9.99 a month, you are paying a subscription *and* your guests are still being shown ads. Punchbowl has a genuine reason people choose it — the licensed Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Sesame Street designs are exclusive and, for a child's birthday, often the whole decision. It is worth knowing what else is on the page. ## The gift-guide problem Advertising is not always a banner. Evite lists gifting-suggestion removal among the upgrades that convert a free design into a paid Premium send, which means gift suggestions are on the free version. For a birthday that is mildly commercial. For a baby shower, a housewarming or a wedding, an invitation that arrives with shopping attached changes what the invitation says about the host.
